I will immediately disappoint all lovers of history and geography. We will not describe here from which century the church of Our Lady of the Snows is located in the square, and we will not even discuss the demarcation line that ran through the city. If you're interested in this, you'll definitely be able to look it up on Wikipedia.
You're here because you're interested in cycling (or maybe you wandered here by mistake, never mind). So we will focus on cycling.
Rokycany is the last larger town on the way to Brd. And Brdy, as is well known, is still an unspoiled paradise. The middle part of the hill is a former military area (a small part is still active and inaccessible, so don't be alarmed if you see barbed wire), but mainly it is still an unspoiled piece of landscape. No hotels, no guesthouses, no pubs with trdelnik. On the other hand, there are plenty of asphalt and gravel roads where there is zero car traffic, clean air and beautiful nature. Brdy is a PLA, so please behave accordingly here. And now a piece of history.
You've probably heard of the Favorit brand bikes before. It is not without interest that the Favorit brand comes from Rokycan. Bicycles were already produced in Rokycany around 1921. Over the years, the owner and the name often changed. In 1978, the millionth Favorit bike was produced. After the revolution, things unfortunately went downhill for the brand. The company was constantly facing foreign competition and did not even react to the mountain bike trend at the time. In 2006, the company went bankrupt. The current owner of the Favorit brand is Favorit Czechoslovakia s.r.o. To be honest, I only found out about the continuation of the Favorit company when I was looking for information in this paragraph. Favorit currently manufactures custom bikes. In Rokycany as such, you would hardly find traces of earlier production. Damage.
If you at least marginally follow races, especially cross-country, then you simply could not miss the name Ondřej Cink. Currently, the best Czech rider in this discipline was born in Rokycany. He comes from the nearby Újezd u svatého kříže and started his career in the Author Team Stupno (now Bike team Stupno) under the leadership of Jarda Ryba, who raised a significant number of Czech hopefuls.
